SEGA had a notable appearance at the Game Awards, particularly with two big announcements, including the return of an iconic license from the Japanese publisher.

In general, the 2024 Game Awards ceremony was the scene of the magnificent return of many iconic gaming licenses from the Land of the Rising Sun. In this area we can cite Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha and Okami in particular. This was also the case on the SEGA side, announcing on the one hand the return of a flagship license and on the other hand a new license for the potential schemer.

A strong comeback for SEGA at the Game Awards 2024?

Let's start, of course, with an announcement that should delight long-time SEGA fans, as it marks a major return of an emblematic license from the Japanese giant that debuted more than twenty years ago: VirtuaFighter. The fighting game series will therefore return in 2025 to try to compete against current big names in the genre such as Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8. This new episode is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza). In addition to a cutscene, we also see a bit of gameplay that is still quite embryonic. We will therefore have to wait for a future presentation to get a better idea.

A new license that will stagnate

Also developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku with SEGA release comes another game, this time apparently brand new. For now, this is only available under the code name “ Project Century “. The following presentation video is about free movement in a Japanese city at the beginning of the 20th century, more precisely in 1915. The peculiarity is that obviously everyone wants to repeat the portrait for us. However, it does not suit our character Techniques and tools are lacking to defend yourself, which promises to be very entertaining with a rather unique artistic touch. However, this new game published by SEGA does not yet have a release date and therefore could evolve a lot until a new official presentation.
