Metal Gear Solid comes back from the dead with remasters and remakes. A big compilation is also planned and comes with good and bad news.
For many months, there has been a lot of talk about the Metal Gear Solid license, originally developed by Hideo Kojima. Finally, it is the last PlayStation Showcase that confirms all the rumors with the unveiling of two big projects related to the franchise. The highly anticipated remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, here renamed Delta, and the release of an XXL compilation of several remastered classic games.
At the time of the announcement, these were the first three MGS announced in this upcoming Fall 2023 collection. As we pointed out at the time of the announcement, the official website stated that other games are taking part of the build. And that’s the case, but if we then bet on MGS 4, 5 or the PSP opus, it turns out that’s not the case.
The other two games in this Master Collection spotted on PlayStation Store are actually Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, the predecessors of the franchise released in 1987 and 1990 respectively. Metal Gear Solid then on PS1.
…but what’s next in an MGS Master Collection Volume 2?
So yes, this is good news for fans and the curious, who can then use it to discover the starting point of one of the most popular licenses in the video game sector Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1. Only here does it also mean that other games are absent and will surely be the subject of a Master Collection Vol.2 sold at full price. Here we think about it Metal Gear Solid 4, 5the spin off Ground Zero and the PSP episode, MGS: Peace Walkers.
What is certain is that Konami is reserving them for a new compilation, which will then follow in the footsteps of the first at intervals of a few months. Something that players will absolutely not like, especially since most already harbor a grudge against the publisher after what happened with Hideo Kojima.
In any case, all of this makes us think it remains to be seen how Konami really planned things.
