Yves Guillemot, CEO Ubisofthas stated that he believes microsoft buy Activision Blizzard That’s “good news” because of what it means for mobile gaming.
During the company’s latest earnings call, Guillemot was asked in an interview with investors about his thoughts on the Activision-Blizzard deal, as well as his decision not to get Ubisoft acquired by another company (thanks VGC). “I think it’s good news that this deal was done because it really shows the power of intellectual property and where the industry is going,” Guillemot said. “So there’s going to be a lot of opportunity for all the companies going forward as well.

“It also demonstrates the value of IP, which can now be on consoles and PC, as well as mobile, and become a more international brand, and when we say global, it’s really all over the world, and it’s a fantastic opportunity…Microsoft said that the mobile part of the Activision deal is very important, so all the investments we’ve made in mobile are aligned with that, so all of these factors will help grow the value of the company.”
Last year, Xbox head Phil Spencer said that the main reason Microsoft sought to acquire Activision Blizzard was the mobile gaming opportunity, but so far Microsoft has been unsuccessful. That’s apparently why organizations like the FTC and the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority aren’t paying as much attention, focusing instead on Call of Duty and, oddly enough, cloud gaming.
Ubisoft has a slew of titles on the horizon, and one of the biggest upcoming mobile titles is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Emerald, the first game in the long-running series to offer a fully open-world experience on mobile. At present, the registration activity of “Jade” is in full swing, and the game will be tested in August.
