Rayman even appears in Ubisoft's new game.
Usually when a new game comes out from Ubisoft it's a pretty big deal. After all, the company is known for large series such as Assassin's Creed, Anno and Rayman. But you can hardly read about a current game release anywhere.
Ubisoft has secretly a game based on the Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blooddragon Remix released. The series itself is a spin-off of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, in which other Ubisoft characters also appear, such as Rayman, who appears as a news anchor. The game is now called Captain Laserhawk: The Game and that seems more like an experiment than a guarantee of success.
A crypto shooter with NFTs and Rayman
Games journalist Stephen Totilo has dared to create this piece of jewelry and quickly found out why Ubisoft prefers to sweep the title under the carpet. The Laserhawk Sooter is a Web3 game, so works with technologies such as blockchains and NFTs.

Captain Laserhawk: The crazy series spin-off for Far Cry 3 is on Netflix
This isn't the first time Ubisoft has dipped its toe into the great swamp of crypto gaming. The game manufacturer introduced playable NFTs in the form of “Ubisoft Quartz” as early as 2021 and received a lot of criticism for it. The blockchain game Champions Tactics, which was released last year, was also kept under the radar by Ubisoft.
Captain Laserhawk: The Game doesn't make a particularly impressive appearance either. As Totilo reports, it is an extremely simple top-down shooter with a futuristic neon look.
On the official website It was also advertised that the community could help shape the narrative. According to Totilo, there was no sign of this in the game yet. The development of Captain Laserhawk so far has focused more on the Web3 ecosystem than on the gameplay.
To play you also need an NFT, which you can get at the beginning of December Got it for free from Ubisoft. According to Totilo, you now have to buy such a “virtual ID card” on the marketplace. He paid just under $26 for it.
Anyone who still throws themselves into the fray will be greeted by, among other things, a kind of battle pass. You can use this to unlock virtual rewards, which in turn can be converted into NFTs. Skins are also available – of course only while stocks last. Basically, the Web3 project works primarily to produce rare virtual objects that users can trade.
One of these items is a “legendary” Rayman profile picture that you can attach to your ID NFT. Of course, this good piece is also limited. The former jump & run hero acts as an announcer for death matches in the game and can at least be controlled in a mini-game. But should you buy a crypto wallet specifically for this?
