“History can help us better understand the world we live in,” Ubisoft said during its Ubisoft Forward presentation, where we learned a lot about Assassin’s Creed Franchise. “Many elements of the past resonate with our present.” It’s a pretty big nod to the current state of world affairs, and the developer notes that it doesn’t want to stop making games about the past to help us better understand ours future.
To that end, the publisher shared more details about its mysterious Infinty project. Back in the summer of 2021, Ubisoft officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Infinite would be in development at its Montreal and Quebec studios. Since we learned about the project, we’ve heard very little about it – until today.
During the presentation, Ubisoft staff noted that Project Infinity itself “is not a game.” Instead, it’s a single entry point for fans that will serve as a springboard for the future. So, for developers, it’s a hub, “like an animus in real life” – a place that unifies stories and experiences in one place. It sounds a bit like a launcher to me, but we’ll see.
Perhaps the most notable part of the new info dump about Infinity, though, is the admission that Ubisoft is “trying out a standalone multiplayer experience” in Infinity again.
There’s very little detail on the ground, so we don’t particularly know what to expect, but we’re hoping it’ll return to the kind of experience we’ve seen in Assassin’s Creed 2 and its accompanying games.
Infinity is still in early development, and it’s probably years away — it’s not even listed on the little roadmap we’ve seen for the future series, which lists expansions for Valhalla in 2022, and then Mirage in 2023, after codename Hexe and codename Jade, and Then
Now is a great time to become an Assassin’s Creed fan!
