A new report by the renowned Bloomberg magazine is currently attracting attention: It says that a new Uncharted was at least once in development at one point in time – but there was by no means everyone at Sony was happy about it.
In one Bloomberg-Report from Sony says that a new Uncharted was at least once in development. It is unclear whether the title is currently being pursued further, partly because the project did not meet with enthusiasm everywhere at Sony.
It’s been more than four years since Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was released and fans are still waiting to see if the franchise returns. There were always rumors about a new game from Sony San Diego, but these have not yet been confirmed.
The report of Bloomberg but lets you sit up and take notice in this regard: According to this, Sony San Diego should rather work on a remake of The Last of Us. A new Uncharted was actually in the works at some point in the past, according to the usually reliable insider Jason Schreier. Responsible for this was neither Naughty Dog nor Sony San Diego, but rather the Sony Bend Studio.
Sony Bend was rather unhappy with this development, after all, Sony had made a proposal for Days Gone 2, which was viewed rather critically and was rejected by the top. The realignment of the developer studio and the assignment to a new Uncharted again pissed off a number of employees. Quite a few team members have therefore left Sony Bend, according to Bloomberg. Background: There were fears that sooner or later Sony Bend would be absorbed by Naughty Dog. The heads of the development studio therefore asked to be withdrawn from the Uncharted project.
Via Twitter Jason Schreier spoke up again and emphasized that he did not know whether the new Uncharted was currently still in the works. So there is obviously a chance that the title was discontinued in the wake of the whole mess. We will of course keep you up to date!
