Supermassive Games, the developer of horror games Until Dawn and The Quarry, is reportedly planning to lay off 90 employees, with 150 employees being told they are at risk of redundancy.
The British studio, which initially worked on DLC for LittleBigPlanet and has since worked with publishers such as Sony and Take-Two Interactive, will make significant cuts to its current staff of around 300 people.

According to Bloomberg, in order to comply with British labor laws on mass layoffs, the layoffs will affect 90 of the 150 workers at risk, and notification was sent via email on Monday morning.
Supermassive Games has since released a statement to Twitter, confirming that plans are in place and will enter a “negotiation period” which is expected to “result in us losing a number of colleagues.” The studio wrote: “As we all know, the gaming industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately we are not immune.
“After much consideration and deep regret, we are restructuring Supermassive Games,” it continued, adding: “This was not a decision that was taken lightly, and we have put in a lot of effort to avoid this outcome.”

The studio said it “will work closely with all those affected” [by the layoffs] ensuring that the process is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible, and going forward, it is “committed to focusing on [its] strive for [its] core strengths and upcoming products to ensure the company’s continued sustainability. “
Although Supermassive isn’t helming the remake of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC, with Ballistic Moon taking the lead, Supermassive still has a number of titles in development on the gaming front, including the third installment in the Dark Pictures Anthology series. The casting of Frank Stone, the next Dead by Daylight spin-off in Tarsier Studios’ original Little Nightmares trilogy, was revealed at last year’s Game Awards, and the latter two are at least expected Released in 2024.
