Calling an unknown number can not only be annoying but also dangerous. To protect yourself, beware of these 10 numbers.
The list of scams that you have to deal with almost every day is extremely long. The most common ones include the grandchild trick, the fake prize or the long-established phishing email. However, these scam attempts are not nearly as annoying as spam calls.
Messages that reach you via SMS or email are of course annoying, but they are much easier to ignore than a constantly ringing cell phone. Faster than you would like, the calls from unknown numbers turn into telephone terror and get on your last nerve. In addition, spam calls can be much more dangerous if the telephone scammers skillfully lure you into a trap with their rhetoric.
So that you don’t fall for a scam and have peace of mind from such calls, you should block known spam numbers in advance. We’ll show you what numbers these are and how to do it on your iPhone or Android phone.
Block numbers on iOS and Android
The procedure for blocking phone numbers differs depending on the smartphone. On an iOS device you first have to save the affected number. Only then can you block them in your contact list. In our instructions we show you step by step how this works.
On an Android smartphone you have to proceed a little differently. Blocking numbers on these devices is already possible from the call list. We have also summarized the specific procedure for you in instructions.
You should block this number
Last month, the calls were mainly due to cost traps, such as Clever Dial reported. The scammers try to trick you into giving you an expensive subscription, contract or product. Nine of the ten most frequently reported numbers come from Germany. One from Great Britain.
You should block the numbers listed below immediately. This way you don’t run the risk of becoming a victim of the scam.
- 069 8700 3110 (Frankfurt am Main)
- 05681 8090 264 (Homberg Efze)
- 05681 8090 265 (Homberg Efze)
- 02237 6922 894 (Kerpen Rhineland-Turnich)
- +44 776 2833 647 (Mobile – UK)
- 030 23595932 (Berlin)
- 0421 61039700 (Bremen)
- 01521 2665194 (Mobil)
- 01521 1989664 (Mobil)
- 01525 8439890 (Mobil)
At the moment you should not only be careful of classic telephone fraud, but also of dubious calls and chat requests on Whatsapp. As part of a new scam, contacts from India (area code +91), Indonesia (area code +62) and Malaysia (area code +60) are calling or writing to you. Under no circumstances should you respond to the requests.
Correct behavior for spam calls
Despite security precautions, it can still happen that a scammer calls you and you pick up the phone. If you find yourself in such a situation, you must definitely follow a few basic rules.
Never reveal your personal information or confirm any information from the person you are talking to. We also recommend avoiding the word “yes”. Telephone scammers are known for scamming calls. By recording your confirmation, they can cut the word out of context and, for example, foist a contract agreement on you. So always answer in complete sentences.
An additional remedy in the fight against spam calls can be a free app from “The Local Telephone Book”. It has reverse search, automatic call detection and spam protection. This way you will always be warned in good time about intrusive callers.
