do you know that You are in the supermarket and want to open your digital shopping list on your smartphone, or you are sitting on the train and are asked to present your digital ticket, but nothing happens when you look into the camera of your cell phone. The facial recognition does not work because of the protective mask, instead you have to enter the unlock code by hand.
This has finally come to an end. At least for users of 12 and 13 series iPhones with Face ID support. Because from today you can download iOS in version 15.4. And that also recognizes you with a breathing mask. To do this, the iPhone scans your eyes or your eye area particularly intensively.

What has happened in 14 years?
No more Apple Watch and no more tricks needed
Until now, anyone who wanted to have their iPhone unlocked via face recognition despite wearing a mask also needed an Apple Watch. The second level of security this gives is enough to unlock your smartphone, although only part of the face can be verified.
There are also tricks online, Face ID, or face recognition on both iPhones and Android devices, even if they don’t perform a special eye scan. To do this, you have to create a second profile for your face, putting on the mask in a certain way and doing the initial scan in a certain way. This can work, but your smartphone often doesn’t recognize you.
With iOS 15.4, all of this is now a thing of the past, at least for owners of an iPhone from the 12 or 13 series. A short self-test under different lighting conditions shows that the technology works reliably. So the next purchase can come.

- Vaccination card in wallet: Now support the EU COVID certificate.
- Universal Control: Two or more devices, such as an iPhone and a MacBook, can be controlled by input on one device.

But soon there might be little reason left
How do you like that? Is the improved facial recognition a successful update? Or have you not yet used the technology anyway, either because your smartphone or iPhone doesn’t offer it at all, or because you simply don’t want to? Feel free to write it in the comments!
