For years, Riot Games only relied on the long-running League of Legends, but it is known that this will change in the future. In the course of several new developments, the first-person shooter Valorant has now been officially announced, around which there has been a lot of speculation on the Internet in recent days. After all, the first leaked pictures had appeared in advance.
In a press release, the developer has now formally nailed heads and confirmed Valorant for summer 2020; a PC version is to appear in this period, console versions are not mentioned at first.
Valorant is the shooter that was previously run internally at Riot Games as "Project A". It will be a free-to-play title that will particularly reward creative play styles. In a game, two teams of five players compete against each other to win most of 24 rounds. Attackers and defenders take turns.
To underline the competitive aspect, Riot Games has also invested heavily in technology support. Riot will have dedicated 128-tick servers for all players worldwide. A specially developed netcode should enable precise hit detection. An anti-cheat program was also developed especially for the new shooter.
Anna Donlon, executive producer of the game, comments on the title and announcement as follows: "As we developed Valorant, we wanted to build on the basic values of a competitive tactical shooter: precise shooting, lethal weapons and strategic execution we hope to bring unique characters skills into play, we hope to expand the traditional tactical shooter principle and offer something new in this genre – we hope that with the release of Valorant fans of tactical shooters all over the world will enjoy it for a long time can."
