Valorant nerfs Chamber and update its engine in patch 5.03

Valorant received its latest patch today, and players around the world will no doubt sympathize with the current version, as Chamber has been severely nerfed.

Chamber was first introduced to Valorant in November 2021, and Sentinel Agent is sure to be a hit. With a pistol and sniper built into his ability suite, Chamber may be one of the most offensive defensive specialists on the list. So, understandably, he quickly became the top pick among ranked players.

However, Valorant has noticed that its players have now mastered Chamber very effectively. So much so that his strengths overshadow his weaknesses, and the skills to counter him aren’t as effective as the developers once hoped.

As a result, the power of Chamber’s overall gear is diminished while still allowing him to maintain his competitive edge. This news will make many chamber music executives feel bad, but for those of us who cringed in fear on the Agent’s Tour De Force voice line, it’s almost a relief.

The changes made to Chamber’s suite are as follows:

rendezvous (E)

  • Base cooldown increased from 20 to 30 seconds
  • Recall cooldown increased from 20 to 30 seconds
  • Whenever a rally point is destroyed, the cooldown is 45 seconds
  • Activation rendezvous range reduced from 21m to 15m

Trademark (C)

  • Slow duration reduced from 9.5 to 6 seconds

Tower of Power (X)

  • Slow duration reduced from 9.5 to 6 seconds
  • Required Ultimate Points have been increased from 7 to 8

Headhunter (Q)

  • Bullet cost increased from 100 to 150

That’s not what Valorant’s 5.03 patch is all about, either. The leg shot multipliers for Neon, Jett, and Chamber’s ultimates have also been reduced. At the same time, Neon’s ultimate skill, speeding, has also undergone some changes.

That said, her damage per shot has decreased, while her kill zone and headshot multiplier have increased. It will be beneficial for those with firm goals, that’s for sure.

Behind the scenes, Valorant has updated its engine and will now use Unreal Engine 4.26. This won’t result in any noticeable differences between players, but will definitely make developers’ lives easier. That said, the update has caused the UI to behave unexpectedly in some cases, and Valorant has warned players that they are trying to fix this as soon as possible and file a bug report where possible.

Also, the proxy browser has been refreshed slightly. A huge amount of amazing agent art has been created and released over time. The browser has been updated to take advantage of more content and honed Valorant’s style.

Patch 5.03 does just that. How do you see the change in Chambers?
