The Steam deck flows happily to the end and works pretty well. If it prevails against other machines of its kind, a new big competitor is coming soon.
The Steam Deck is still being talked about a lot today and Valve is already considering the sequel. When it was announced, many players saw it as a viable alternative to playing big games on the go without burning their PEL as well. Because if the Steam Deck is a box, it is by no means a revolution. You may not know it, but the competition in the industry is already fierce.
There are other very powerful consoles/laptops such as ONEXPlayer or AYA. However, The Steam Deck had two major arguments to torpedo the competition: an attractive price point, half the price of the big plays on the market, and optimizing its hardware with Steam’s vast library. However, a new competitor is about to enter the scene and could also hit hard. His name, Asus.
ROG ALLY, the Steam deck killer?
Asus is a well-known brand among PC users. The company has developed a lot in the gaming sector by offering peripherals and even its own gaming brand. Asus will soon launch an attack on the mobile gaming platform sector. Mixture of consoles and PC that you can take anywhere.
Recently, the company announced the imminent arrival of its ROG ally, a Steam Deck in the colors of the gaming brand Asus with promising features. We’re talking about a 7-inch screen that displays a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and can boost its brightness up to 500 nits. We are therefore on paper above the possibilities of the Steam Deck. In addition, the ROG Ally runs natively with Windows 11, which means that PC games or even the Xbox Game Pass catalog will be easily accessible.

No, this is not a joke and the machine would be very strong!
The thing is, when the announcement was made in early April, nobody believed it for a second. Everyone thought this was just another April Fool’s joke. There was a bunch. But no, the machine is actually real. Asus recently confirmed the announcement again directly Twitter. In addition, a handful of youtubers specializing in this field were also able to get their hands on a prototype of the machine. And if they don’t know all the elements, they agree that the ROG Ally would potentially be twice as efficient as the Steam Deck, only that.
A design close to the steam deck, but not too much
At the moment, however, apart from the technical elements mentioned above, we do not know much about this new machine. As the Youtubers point out, the price has not yet been indicated and at the moment they are only prototype versions, although they are advanced. In addition, the design of the prototype now points us to what remains of ROG hardware. It’s clean, a bit edgy, and still retains that slightly “cyberpunk” vibe. We note an ergonomics that seems quite similar to that of the Steam deck, with buttons in the same place, triggers above the screen, plus two more on the back. The joysticks, on the other hand, are asymmetrical and there’s no trackpad on the front. Some differences therefore, but we are very close to the competition. Finally, note the presence of a jack port, a micro SD card slot or a USB-C port.
Asus has therefore not given any price or further information for the time being. But it shouldn’t take too long. Let’s just hope he doesn’t miss the boat to make his announcement this time.
