Steam Deck has been around for a while, and Valve has slowly but surely ramped up production of handheld systems. The long wait time to buy a Steam Deck has all but been reduced, and now people can finally order the system without reservations.
The reservation system for ordering Steam Decks requires those willing to wait to leave a small deposit and place buyers in a queue for other reservations. The months-long wait period for pre-orders to become shipped orders, however, has steadily diminished as the Steam deck surpassed Valve’s estimates for the system.
As of now, buying a Steam deck requires no pre-orders or queues at all. If you want to buy a handheld for yourself, you can actually join Steam right now and order one. There’s no deposit required, and you don’t need to wait patiently for that email to arrive in your inbox, inviting you to finally buy the device.
After addressing shortages and various logistical issues, Valve has finally caught up with demand, estimating that in the UK any order should arrive within a week or two of purchase. Not only that, but Valve is now able to expand Steam Deck production and expand to other regions. As such, Steam Decks are now available for pre-order in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and Hong Kong.
That’s not all. Valve also unveiled the official dock for the Steam Deck, which features three USB-A 3.1 Gen1 ports, a USB-C port, DisplayPort, HDMI, and Gigabit Ethernet ports. It also says it supports any other USB-C dock, if you don’t like buying the official one. “What we’ve done on SteamOS is to make the dock work perfectly with Steam Deck, which helps improve compatibility with other 3rd party hubs and docks,” Valve said.
With all this in mind, will you pick up the Steam deck anytime soon? Or try the official dock?
