Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has had quite a tragic history, including developer changes and indefinite postponement. Now there is finally a sign of life again.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was once a beacon of hope for role-playing fans after the famous but unfortunately technically miserable predecessor that once sealed the end of Troika Games. But: the title, which was to be developed by Hardsuit Labs, simply did not make any progress, was thrown overboard several times and then postponed indefinitely by publisher Paradox Interactive in 2021, including the change of the developer studio to a previously unnamed studio.
Actually, no one believed that the game could still appear, but now, surprisingly, there is a sign of life again. On the official site Paradox announced that the game still exists and will be presented to the public in September. As proof, the publisher also published some brand new screenshots of the apparently completely rebooted game:
At the same time, Paradox also commented on the status of the pre-orders, as far as there are any left after the long time:
“We realize that it has been a long time since many of you pre-ordered Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. As development continues, we will be updating the game’s editions and bonus content, and we want those of you who have us through digital pre-orders, offer the best value after all this time. As such, we’re offering a refund to anyone who pre-ordered any edition. As part of this process, we’re proactively refunding all pre-orders of physical products, including the Collector’s Edition. The Digital versions of the First Blood Edition, Unsanctioned Edition, and Blood Moon Edition will remain, but may be refunded upon request.”
The question remains exciting as to who has now taken over the development of the game, because there is no information to be found in the Paradox statement. So let’s hope that the previously rather sad saga about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 might still get a happy ending.
And here is one of the old trailers as a reminder of what the game was originally supposed to look like:
