Many PlayStation exceptions have landed on PC. But what about the future? The CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment answers bluntly.
Among the selling points of the PS5 and its predecessors are exclusive games. The company could therefore have decided to keep them on the console to attract more and more new players to the PS5. However, to reach a wider audience, PlayStation exclusives have been ported to PC in recent years. A strategy planned for the medium/long term that Jim Ryan, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, returns to again
Exclusive PS5 games on PC, but…
In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, Jim Ryan spoke about the future of PlayStation exclusives on PC. Today some appear after a few years on the PC. For example, Horizon Zero Dawn was released in 2020, three years after its release on PS4. Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy landed on Steam or even the Epic Games Store in October 2022, five years after the last episode appeared on PlayStation. And these are just a few examples. Jim Ryan has confirmed what he has said in the past: these ports created after a few years should be continued. On the other hand, releasing a PS5 exclusive on day one on PC seems unthinkable at the moment. A little cold shower for players hoping to discover future titles from the PlayStation catalog faster.
We fully understand the importance of exclusive PS5 titles. PlayStation Studios main mission is to ensure that players can enjoy the gaming experience with the latest PlayStation console. We’re increasing the number of PS5 exclusive titles and delaying the release of the PC version. I often get the chance to ask fans their opinions and when I ask them about this discrepancy they tell me that sales of the PC version are going well two or three years after the release of the PlayStation version.

Towards making PlayStation games accessible to as many people as possible
In conclusion, Jim Ryan’s statement about the future of PS5 exclusives on PC should come as no surprise to many. As early as 2021, the President of SIE announced his intention “Bringing games to the level of music”
Last week, Sony announced that it would host a new PlayStation Showcase this Thursday, May 24th at 10pm French time. The manufacturer is to present the “Phase 2” of this generation of consoles. Highly anticipated titles like Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are therefore likely to show up. It’s even rumored that the latter could officially release in September 2023. Unannounced exclusions should also be announced. Particular attention should be paid to PSVR 2 games, while nice surprises (Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake ?) could well be in play. We are happy ! We expect there could be some announcements regarding ports of certain games to PC.
