Just over a week before the launch, the guys from Saber Interactive have announced details about the cross-play support for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. It is also now clear how the title will run technically on the consoles.
It was known that cross-play would be supported in the sequel – but only now has it been determined exactly how this will be implemented. Accordingly, cross-play will be fully supported between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and also Epic Games Store right from launch, but only in the campaign and in the PvE modes. This means that all PC and console players can get started together.
Things are different in the PvP mode Eternal War – and the reason for this is fairness and balancing. Here, cross-play is split between the PC and the consoles. In short: Steam and EGS gamers can play against each other in a pool on the PC, and cross-play between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is supported here.
It is also worth mentioning that cross-play can be deactivated entirely. So if you only want to play on one platform, you have the option to do so.
And there are now final details on the technical implementation on consoles. Resolutions up to 4K are supported. On both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 there is a choice between a performance and a quality mode. In performance mode the title runs in 1080p at 60 fps, in quality mode in 4K at 30 fps.
Things are a little different on the weaker Xbox Series S, as there is no performance mode. You can only play in quality mode at a resolution of 1440p with 30 fps.
In terms of technical features, DLSS2 and FSR2 will be supported at launch, with DLSS3 and FSR3 to be delivered via a post-launch update.
