As promised, the Warhammer Skulls event brought exciting news for Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 fans. However, nothing was more impressive than the reveal of Starfighter II.
The action shooter developed by Saber Interactive has made two big announcements, although one of them was technically leaked not too long ago.

Space Marine 2 is a co-op game at heart, so we’ve long known that we’d be able to play the campaign with two other friends. However, earlier in Warhammer Skulls, we learned that Saber is embracing the spirit of co-op even further with a dedicated new mode.
operations is a three-player cooperative mode that begins after the main campaign. It is a standalone PvE mode with its own progression system. In Operation, you can choose from six classes as you are sent on missions to eliminate the enemies of the Empire.
As you play the game, you’ll earn XP that can be used to upgrade your weapons and unlock new perks for your Ultramarines. There are also a range of cosmetic unlocks available, allowing you to customize various parts of each character.
More missions, new enemies, and additional weapons will be added in free updates upon release. If you want to stick around, there will be a season pass that comes with its own set of unlockable cosmetics.
Also revealed today is the return of the beloved PvP mode from the original Space Marine. 6v6 multiplayer pits Space Marines against Chaos opponents in three modes. As with Action, PvP uses the same class system, so once you’ve completed the campaign, you have even more reason to spend time in the game.
In conjunction with today’s news, digital pre-orders for Space Marine 2 have launched across all digital storefronts, with three versions available. The game will be released on September 9 on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Dom played Starfighter 2 at gamescom last year and thought it was a perfect blend of Doom and Gears of War with a retro feel. Today’s announcement of both the PvP and PvE versions shows that Saber is indeed the Xbox 360 version – we’re really looking forward to it!
Hopefully, by the time we get to play the game again, some of the shortcomings highlighted in the preview will have been ironed out. Until then, we’ll just have to watch those trailers over and over again.
