What is a non-armour-piercing projectile called? It’s a hotly debated question call-of-duty The community is now receiving a very strange update from the latest patch war zone 2.
We’ve already taken a look at what the Modern Warfare 2 patch notes contain in our dedicated article, but there’s another set of changes in Raven’s dedicated Warzone 2 patch notes that’s also worth a look.
In addition to a few extra bytes of information (e.g., “Added audio notification for Jailors entering the Gulag” or “Fixed an issue that prevented the progress of the “Dragon in the Downtown” business card from being tracked”) Players of the big-budget battle royale are sad.
That is:
- armor piercing ammunition
- Removed damage multiplier against armored opponents
Strange, right? Of course, there are other uses for attachments; equipping that type of ammo will do more damage to the vehicle and killstreak in AO (handy for all those Uber drivers), but the main function of these ammo – Damages armored soldiers more – moot right now.
“They should change it to armor piercing vehicles, APA is literally designed for war zones,” said a commenter on Reddit.
“So it has a misleading name now,” said another, “and how much armored enemies the DMZ throws at you, you run out of ammo faster.”
AI-controlled enemies are a problem in the battle royale portion of the game, and using an LMG with armor-piercing rounds is a solid strategy against them. Raven and Activision seem to want to keep the challenge gradient steady by removing this stat from ammo.
One user joked that this won’t be the end of the strange ammo-altering nature of the Raven patch. In the next update: Velocity ammo now moves slower [and] Molotov cocktails now apply freeze,” they joked.
Jokes aside, to gain a deeper understanding of this decision, it’s useful to reflect on where AP rounds fit in the metadata.piercing is for penetrating damage, with a vehicle/kill streak as a reward. Molotov cocktails do the exact opposite, in the sense that the damage over time is a temptation (although right now, DOTs are practically useless). If you think of AP more as “stopping power”, you might be in a better headspace to understand attachments and their place in the game.
We just hope to change the name or something in the future to make it easier to parse.
