As a well-established player, Amazon is an integral part of today’s smart home world. Whether smart speaker, smart TV, video doorbell and so on: the internet giant has a considerable inventory of products in its portfolio.
Of course, that’s no reason to rest on your laurels. On the contrary, the product range wants to be constantly renewed and expanded. In line with this, Amazon will be presenting new devices, services and functions on September 28 – just as it did in 2021, when it attracted attention with the small, cute robot Astro.
Can you follow the Amazon hardware event live?
Unfortunately, the presentation will not take place as a public stream. Therefore there will be no streams for live viewing on Youtube or Twitch. Instead, the event, which will take place on September 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Europe time, will be reserved for invited press representatives.
But of course we will report on the most important announcements of the event, so that you are aware of all the highlights.
What could Amazon show at the hardware event?
In contrast to many other announcement events, where the majority of the products have already been leaked in advance, we know next to nothing about Amazon’s presentation.
Our assumptions as to what could be seen at the event are therefore largely based on past product presentations and personal assessments.
Nevertheless, we don’t want to withhold our expectations from you.
Almost a must: news from Amazon Echo
Probably the safest tip in our preliminary reporting: Amazon is presenting a new smart speaker at the event. Not only does the group release new iterations of the models at regular intervals – last year, for example, the Echo Show 15. There was also information about a new studio offshoot with a modified processor.
Other devices such as the Echo Dot or Echo Sub are now getting on in years. Here, too, replenishment would be due in the meantime.
Ring, ring: New security cameras from Amazon
The information that there could be new security cameras from Amazon on display at the hardware event comes from Europey. More precisely from Caschys Blog. He reports that he already knows that Amazon has new Ring devices up its sleeve. However, he cannot yet say for sure whether these will also be presented at the hardware event.
Amazon’s second security-focused smart home brand, Blink, could also expand its product range.
My request: Bring a new Fire TV Cube
Whether Amazon will present a new Fire TV Cube is honestly written in the stars. However, it’s been three years since Amazon released the latest iteration of its TV Cube. In the tech world, that’s decades.
Especially compared to the newer Fire TV Stick 4K Max, the technology here is getting on in years. And that despite the fact that the more expensive TV Cube, with its more convenient controls without physical inputs, should actually be the flagship of the lineup.
Not just hard stuff: software info about Matter and Alexa
Even if the hardware is likely to be the focus during the event: Amazon will not let the software fall under the table either.
The elephant in the room is clearly Matter. The new smart home standard is scheduled to start in the fall. After Google and Apple only recently prepared their smartphone environments for the launch, we also expect more information from Amazon on how to integrate Matter. Even if the company has already announced some things about Matter support.
The fact that there will also be one or the other news about the Alexa voice assistant: a gift.

Matter: Why the new smart home standard is so important
A curious highlight?
As already mentioned in the introduction, the little robot Astro in particular attracted attention at the hardware event last year. Then there was the Glow video phone for children.
It cannot be ruled out that Amazon will again have an unexpected smart home gimmick up its sleeve in 2022 to get people talking. Any attempt at classification in advance is of course invalid here. We’ll just have to be surprised.
