The return surprised us and the badge of honor that had to be discovered with the joystick in hand for about three hours. return puts you in the shoes of Slne, an astronaut investigating a distress signal whose ship crashes as she approaches her target plant. Another problem is that she falls on a corpse of herself very quickly, then dies in turn and realizes that she’s stuck in an endless time warp, a bit like Tom Cruise in the Edge of tomorrow – some aliens out return seem to be inspired by it – or Bill Murray in the An endless day. And we have to try to break this cycle. A starting point that is quite classic, but very effective, and all the more so since the narrative is rather stylish, diffuse, but very powerful and if we do not have all the keys to understanding after 3 hours of play, we are clearly addicted!

There, too, we really appreciated the level of gameplay that we were able to experience in the Housemarque game. Rogue-lite of its state, any death, return to the beginning of the game, to the place of the crash … Lose all your equipment and keep few permanent improvements. The world changes with each pass, giving you a new layout of all these recognizable rooms, but they are organized differently (with some minor placement errors for some airlines). But rest assured, if death is punishable enough, you can come back stronger, and the second exploration of a level is done in simpler conditions, with the addition of knowledge of the universe that gives you little better for the boss fight, who will finish the level.

Fighting hordes of enemies, all of which are more dangerous than the others, creates a certain nervousness and you set up strategies in real time that are pretty boring, a bit like in the last DOOMs. We only saw a tiny fraction of the bestiary, weapons, props, or bosses, but it clearly made us see more. The first two levels were pretty strong in terms of design too: ruins of an alien civilization dominated midnight blue, followed by a desert with purple hues, and the monsters must not be outdone with creatures that are sometimes quite surprising.
Retro Next Gen.
After all, you know that from what we’ve seen, the game clearly honors the PS5, spinning whatever is on the screen at a breakneck speed of 60 fps, and it’s all pretty nice. The artistic direction is not free, but the lighting effects, the textures, the 3D models, everything seems to get to the point. And it’s not a tiny passage in front of a mirror that slows down the number of frames per second a little and makes us laugh. The DualSense also brings its share of sensations with it and not clearly on what we have seen so far. return is not far from being flawless as we have almost no complaints. WE ARE EXPECTING IT … LIKE THE REAL PS5 LAUNCH GAME!
Returnal offers a TPS action formula with Shoot’em Up, combined with stubborn rogue-lite mechanics in the fort that make you want to return. We are under a spell at what we have seen. Also interesting is the story, which is clearly inspired by the film. Edge of tomorrow, because Slne, our poor avatar, who has just crashed with his spaceship on an unknown plant, dies several times and every time he returns to the scene of the accident at the very beginning … We don’t know anything for the time being, but we want to see the end of it. And technical question, the PS5 is a good contribution, with very nice graphics combined with a convincing design and a constant 60 fps. very soon for the TEST we hope as soon as possible!
