You can delay the inevitable as much as you want, but in the end everything in life catches up with us. As Johnny Cash said in the song God’s Gonna Cut You Down: “You can run all you want, and sooner or later God will catch up with you,” although in my case it was Rellana, Knight of the Twin Moon.
I didn’t want to go to Ensis Castle. I knew that one of the most famous bosses and player killers in all of Shadow of the Erdtree, but also a favorite among the community, awaited me there. I reluctantly headed to the Grace Cross of Three Paths and walked across the Great Bridge of Ellac to the Grace in Front of the Castle.
I cleared out the entire camp in front of the walls and decided I didn’t want to take on this challenge alone. I didn’t feel like it. I wrote to a friend who was playing on WhatsApp to ask if I could hire him as a mercenary. He accepted, so I had a companion.
Almost everything is better with friends in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Ensis Castle turned out not to be the torture I expected, more like a light version of Stormshroud Keep in the Lands Between. My friend, who knows me very well, wanted to clarify the terms of our expedition before we went deeper into the fortress: “But do you want to explore?” To which I replied: “You are my guide, my Gandalf, take me to Rellana.”
He did, sort of. We made our way forward without any problems until we came to a rather large group of enemies on a wall. There was no possible stratagem: the fight had to be direct and so it was. He died due to a lapse of concentration and I finished off his killer before he returned to his world. “Wait, I’m on my way there,” he said with a certain vengeful tone.
We regrouped and continued along the walls. A knight was guarding the entrance to the castle itself. I let him open the attack and took advantage of the opportunity to get behind him and launch several attacks with my katana, which caused the bleeding to appear. He was only able to land two blows that hit the ground.
We went up by elevator until we reached La Gracia Chamber of the Lord of the Castlewhich was already inside the structure. The hallways and halls were dark, and lit by bluish-white flames. It had clear influences from Raya Lucaria Academy and the Caria Mansion, especially the latter. I said it out loud once, but in my mind it was several times.
The castle was not very open to exploration, not much more than a small path through a balcony. The next room in the structure, past some stairs, was a huge courtyard where we were greeted by a Rellana, Knight of the Twin Moon
The first thing I thought was that the combat arena, Ensis Lunar Observatory Courtyard (Grace), it is very similar to Luna Real Observatory Patio of the Caria Mansion. There we faced Royal Guard Loretta. I don’t know if it has any relation, but the similarity of both places seemed beautiful to me. All this thought lasted one or two seconds, which was the time it took for Rellana to launch herself at me after crossing the boss fog.
I almost managed to defeat Rellana on the first try, even though my friend died after a few hits. Her magic attack that throws three moons to the ground (area attack) caught me completely off guard and sent me into a rut. We didn’t beat around the bush for the next attempt. We summoned another player named skibidi aura+, whose build was identical to mine: bleeding.
There was no quarter for Rellana. The blows from our katanas quickly caused the first bleeding, while my friend launched magical slings with his Darkmoon Greatsword. There was a perfect moment when our three attacks combined, including the bleeding from both katanas, and we managed to remove 16,063 damage from him in one go. It was an epic blow.
Rellana phased, but it didn’t do her any good at first. She took another massive amount of katana damage and bleeding after a backstab from my friend. That’s when she got angry and took off into the air. It was the moment of truth: the attack of the moons. All three of us jumped at the same time and dodged the three moon explosions. The choreography was beautiful.
He had us on the ropes with less than a quarter of his life left, but nothing that a few Vials of Crimson Tears, Estus to his friends, couldn’t fix. I dealt the most cowardly and vile coup de grace in my history: I ran to his back and slid my katana down his side. The knight’s moan was heard, she stuck her sword in the ground and died with all the honor that we lacked.
Even if it was in such a vile way, Toretto already said it Fast and Furious: “It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning.” And we won. Not satisfied with that, I stayed 3-4 hours more helping other players. I wanted to enjoy more time in all the beauty of Rellana.
