According to “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” director Christopher McQuarrie, competition is nonsensical. Nevertheless, he has set himself the goal of outdoing Tom Cruise with his new film “Top Gun: Maverick”.
- The cinema summer of 2023 has a few highlights to offer, but when it comes to action, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1” is ahead.
- Nobody expects a flop, but can the new film with Tom Cruise beat the sensational success of 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick”?
- At least that’s what director Christopher McQuarrie is aiming for.
“We don’t see ourselves as competing with ‘Bond’ or ‘John Wick’. We love these films and we admire these filmmakers and we want them to win” – director Christopher McQuarrie is loud Total Film don’t think that the big action series of today have to outdo each other.
Of course he is right about that, also because there is currently a large time gap between the films, “John Wick 4” and McQuarrie’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1” do not get in each other’s way in the cinemas. Here the new “Mission: Impossible” gets competition from “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie”.
However, McQuarrie advocates competition – with yourself!
After “Top Gun [Maverick]” we watched the movie and said, ‘We’re going to bury these guys. We’re going to destroy Top Gun’. That’s how we see it too. Our only competitors are ourselves. You’ll be in the second part [von “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”] See things that benefit from everything we’ve learned from Maverick.
Christopher McQuarrie
Although Joseph Kosinski directed ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, McQuarrie wrote and produced the hit movie, starring Tom Cruise. However, he does not want to rest on his laurels on the success of the cinema summer 2022 and in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible” sequel, stunt king Tom Cruise can of course prove again that even at the age of 60 he can run faster and with more stamina than all modern action stars .
