Battlefield 2042 will be the remake Dimi always wanted
Like most current online shooters, Battlefield 2042 is a service game. That means: After the launch, a constant stream of new content should keep the players happy in the long run.
But what exactly will that look like? We summarize the developers’ already confirmed plans and explain what leaks are already revealing about the future of Battlefield 2042.
“The release is our starting point”
When asked, the developers confirmed to GameStar that the start of sales on October 22, 2021 should only mark the starting point of Battlefield 2042. The makers promise to work closely with the community in the future to deliver new content that fans really want.
And this content should be free, because Battlefield relies on the established for its service plan Model from Seasons and Battle Passlike CoD Warzone, Apex Legends or Rainbow Six: Siege have been doing for a long time. There are no map packs or the like.
The approach to genre competitors corresponds exactly to the zeitgeist of the shooter genre! In the GameStar podcast we talk about creative crises, battle royale and the next big genre revolution:

What’s for free?
All content relevant to the gameplay should appear in the form of free updates or be included in the free path of the Battle Pass, the four times a year appears and unlock all players automatically. The following have already been confirmed:
- New multiplayer maps
New specialists with their own gadgets and skills
- New weapons (usable for all classes)
All Battle Pass content from this category can be unlocked at no extra cost. New content for multiplayer, such as Maps or Specialists, is also always available directly in the Battlefield Portal. Progress in the Battle Pass is achieved in every game mode, whether you are playing Multiplayer, Hazard Zone or in a portal lobby.
In the premium path of every Battle Pass, you can also Cosmetic content for a surcharge unlock. These include specialist skins or weapon trailers. The developers emphasize that paid DLC content should never affect the balance or the actual gameplay.
By the way, you can see what this content looks like from the pre-order bonuses and extras in the more expensive Gold and Ultimate editions and the soldier outfits that have been revealed so far:

Do leakers already know more?
Tom Henderson reveals even more details about the season model on Twitter. He is considered an insider with reliable contacts in the industry and had predicted many details very precisely in the run-up to the Battlefield 2042 reveal. It is therefore considered to be relatively reliable.
Nevertheless, his information should always be taken with a certain amount of caution! Henderson writes on Twitter, every new season in Battlefield 2042 includes for free:
- A new specialist
- Two new MP maps
- Two new portal maps
- An update for Hazard Zone (story focus)
- 6-8 new weapons
- 2-3 new vehicles
- 100 levels in the Battle Pass
One hundred levels per Battle Pass are now considered the standard in the shooter industry, which is why this information should come as little surprise. The number of maps, weapons and vehicles sounds extremely ambitious when you consider that a season only lasts three months.
As soon as we receive secure information about the season content from the developers, you will of course find out immediately here.
