We explore this in an unconventional way, picking out a bunch of things that aren’t Star Wars and pointing out their similarities to Star Wars. Confused yet? Don’t be, it’s just an excuse to argue.
Star Wars is a massive media franchise that has had so many creative inputs from various writers, directors, showrunners, and other types of creatives over the years that it’s hard to really pin down what its true essence is. That’s why the question “What’s the best Star Wars game other than the Star Wars games?” is so fun: you can argue about anything. Yes, even Football Manager.
So what did our panel most associate with it? Laser swords and space wizards, or an embattled rebellion against a tyrannical empire? The things that had a major influence on a young George Lucas, like the Flash Gordon adventure series, the films of Akira Kurosawa, and his experience of the Vietnam War?
Special guest Ian Dransfield from Some Old Games Magazines will be joining host Jim and regular panelists Connor and Mark. Tom is missing this week as he is on holiday.
