Whispp: This app allows stutterers to speak smoothly

Whispp is a Dutch start-up that wants to help stuttering people. Thanks to AI, the app should let it speak smoothly.

In addition to the big players such as Samsung, Huawei and Co. Among other things, we were able to talk to Joris Ceastermans, Founder and CEO from Whispp. He explained to us how this AI program can help people with language defects.

Castersmans stuttered as a child himself – only when he whispered did he speak smoothly. The idea for whispp came from this. Whispp currently offers a AI-based solution for people with language impairments by converting whispered language into clear, spoken words in real time. This enables people with impaired vocal cords or stuttering people to express themselves clearly. You can choose whether your words are reproduced by AI replica of your own voice or by an art vote.

This is how it works

Whispp is already available free of charge for Android and iOS in a first version. Here the data is processed via the cloud – which means that there is a delay. Real-time processing is planned directly on the device-for example integrated into the telephone app from smartphones.

A new Whispp desktop app is also to be released in September. The processing is already on the device here. With a virtual microphone, it should be possible to use Whispp in all programs for video calls.

We were interested in whether Whispp can also benefit from people with other articulation disorders, for example after a stroke. According to Castermans, this is a next step that you want to go, but the AI ​​has not yet been able to correct poor articulation.

We find the idea behind Whispp promising and are excited to see how the Dutch startup will develop in the next few years.
