NOTICE: This post contains SPOILERS for the story of Kylo Ren and the latest Star Wars trilogy.
The latest film trilogy Star Wars brought with it a number of new characters. One of the most prominent was Kylo Ren or Ben Solo, son of Han Solo and Leia Skywalker and nephew of Luke Skywalker. In other words, a descendant of the Skywalker family.
Kylo Ren He has several interesting issues and one of them is the one that concerns us in this post: why does his lightsaber seem so unstable? The shape of his sword was one of the most commented topics by fans after seeing the Episode VII: The Force Awakens
What happens to Kylo Ren’s sword?
Ben Solo is a Skywalker, so the Force was strong on him. He was sent by Leia to the Jedi school that Luke Skywalker set up between episodes VI and VII. The story is long and complex, but it happened that Ben was corrupted by Supreme Leader Snoke
Until then, Ben had a blue colored Jedi sword with a healthy kyber crystal powering the sword and “a diatio power cell wedged inside the hilt as an additional power source“, as described Star Wars Wiki.
Falling to the dark side, Ben adopted the name Kylo Ren and earned the title of Master of the Knights of Ren. He kept his original weapon. He dedicated himself to modifying and forcing it to the point of achieving the lightsaber we know today. And how did he modify her and force her to look so unstable?
Kylo Ren was inspired by the Great Scourge of Malachor, a great battle between the Jedi Order and the Sith that took place on the planet Malachor millennia before, to shape his lightsaber. Like all Sith, he had to go through an initiation ritual that involves forcing the kyber crystal through the power of the dark side to make it “bleed” and thus obtain the red tone for the sword. However, Kylo went too far and broke it.
Let’s remember that his sword was already powerful, now he had to endure the power of a broken and manipulated kyber crystal
In short: Kylo Ren’s sword looks that unstable because of his personalityunstable and volatile, and the continuous experimentation from its owner. Kylo Ren did not receive enough lessons on the construction and operation of lightsabers. However, the Skywalkers have always been a knack for making and fixing things.
