Call of Duty: Warzone regularly changes playable playlists. Sometimes there are trios, sometimes squads, sometimes solos for the Battle Royale, sometimes there are duos and sometimes trios for the Danish fashion – in any case, the Warzone menu remains in constant change and the playable modes are exchanged every two weeks at the latest.
Why does that have to be? Why is this playlist rotation necessary? That's exactly what we asked the developers of CoD: Warzone in an exclusive interview. And they provided us with sensible arguments and, above all, made it clear that the playlists will continue to change, so there is no end to the variety in sight.
What does Warzone's playlist rotation bring?
In the interview, Geoffrey Smith, the multiplayer design director, and Joe Cecot, the co-design director of multiplayer for Call of Duty, answered our questions.
First, the two explained why seems impossible, just all available playlists at the same time to offer – i.e. solo, duo, trio and squads:
"It's a question of player numbers. If we provide too many game modes, we split the player base. This means that people have to wait too long to start in all the different modes. Also, people who like to play solos can online may be very loud, but that may not be reflected in actual numbers.
It is not easy to reconcile all of this. That's why we always set the individual playlists active for one or two weeks and then we take them out of the game again. So you can play them regularly, but we keep our players together. "
So it should be for every playlist and every mode always enough players give so that the servers are not too thin at some point.
CoD players should experience a change
And there is a second reason for the frequent variety in Call of Duty. Because, as the two developers also tell us, they want also force their players to experiment a little:
"We also want to bring innovations into the game and let our players experience different things. So that they don't always gamble only in the mode that they are used to."
So one day we will most likely finally be able to play duos in Battle Royale mode, after all, this is the mode that fans are longing for the most, and at the same time a leak pointed out possible duos weeks ago.
What do you think of the ever-changing CoD playlists? Would you like more consistency or are you also for a change? Please write us your opinion in the comments!
