8K in danger? In fact, Europe wants to reduce the energy consumption of many products that are considered to be the least energy efficient.
Even if the 8K resolution (7680 x 4320 pixels) is far from democratized, the lack of suitable content apparently has not prevented many manufacturers from jumping into the breach and offering many Screens TV and even some monitors.
Will Europe ban you from 8K?
In March 2021, Europe changed energy labeling regulations. That little label you find on the box of your devices when you go shopping. Thus each label indicates the electricity consumption in kWh for 1000 hours. Well, Europe wants to go even further in 2023 and propose a new scale called the Energy Efficiency Index. The latter would add a maximum power consumption not to be exceeded. Do you see where we’re from? 8K clearly has some issues to worry about.
Indeed, the energy specialist Flat panel HD therefore calculated the maximum EEI of different TV sizes. And according to these calculations, the 8K TVs on the market in 2022 will far exceed the recommendations and the legislation to be implemented. So it will be necessary for manufacturers to be able to offer more energy efficient TVs or scale up, because as it stands it will simply be impossible to market 8K TVs in Europe.
It is therefore not possible to play in 8K for the time being, even if 4K is not yet available in all households anyway.
