Because even Microsoft does not succeed in everything, for example when it comes to service games. The partnership with Riot Games is no coincidence: League of Legends & Co. are intended to fill a gap left by stagnant Microsoft games like Halo: Infinite. Even in the important mobile market, you can’t get your foot on the ground – smartphone app for xCloud streaming or not.
In addition, the Damocles sword of success hovers over everything: If Game Pass continues to grow, which it likely will – thanks to Bethesda’s “space Skyrim” Starfield and possibly Diablo 4 soon, as well as Call of Duty if Microsoft’s Activision acquisition goes through – then what’s on offer could change significantly.
Once the Game Pass brings up the big service games – who needs the love for the small, classic game without microtransactions?
