Manor Lords is already among us, the new title that is sweeping in Steam with thousands of simultaneous players. The strategy, management and simulation of an entire empire in the Middle Ages has conquered the community, which is a great achievement for the Early Access published by Slavic Magic.
The developer does not have the most mundane name in the industry, but what is more unusual is its origin. During a recent talkdeveloper Greg Styczeń has confessed that it is all due to a meme from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
“I was inspired by the meme you may have seen about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which says: ‘Vodka and Slavic Magic’. “It touched me very deeply as an independent Polish developer with a little budget but a lot of passion.”
What meme is the Polish developer referring to specifically? It is one that compare facial animations from Mass Effect: Andromeda, mocking them, compared to those achieved by CD Projekt RED for Geralt of Rivia. You can see it below:

Meanwhile, Styczeń has received support from initiatives such as Patreon and Epic’s MegaGrant that have allowed him to move forward. Manor Lords. He himself assures that this is his first serious project and, although he has a few more hands working on the title, he directs most of the production without help.
“By receiving the MegaGrant, I was able to stop taking orders at my day job so I could focus on development full time. I also started hiring more freelance artists to help me with various tasks, such as perfecting motion capture or adding illustrations to events. These are details that together contribute to making the game look more like a finished product than a fan-made project.”
