Gaming News With this Starfield mod you can literally control mechas!
Starfield launched in September and is likely to soon become a real playground for modders thanks to Bethesda releasing official tools. But the wait doesn’t stop some developers from testing things and thinking about adding elements whose absence is often regretted by players.
Starfield: A galactic adventure that divides
From announcement to release, Starfield has been under a lot of scrutiny. It must be said that this is the first game with a brand new license, something Bethesda hasn’t done in a quarter of a century. Without denying the DNA of The Elder Scrolls or Fallout 3D, Starfield changes the scale and takes us on an adventure of galactic proportions. For about a thousand stars, there are about a hundred systems. Obviously, not all of them are inhabited and many of them, as in “reality”, are completely hostile to life and/or lifeless.
Regardless, humanity has colonized habitable planets and left behind a desiccated planet Earth. The player, in turn, plays a miner who has visions when he comes into contact with a strange artifact. He is quickly recruited by Constellation, the final faction dedicated to exploring and unlocking “the final secrets of the galaxy.” During our journey we visit different cities, design or buy ships, explore, pursue many faction quests and analyze.
An attractive program on paper, but one that is strongly divided. Some players were completely immersed in this universe, but others were disappointed. Among the most common criticisms are those related to space, which is a hub more than anything else. Others believe that the setting is stuck in the past and that the exploration isn’t nearly as satisfying, especially because of all those “empty” planets. Regardless, Starfield piqued the curiosity of more than 12 million gamers and made it a success for Microsoft, which, like all first-party games, integrated the title into Game Pass.
Mechas in Starfield? This modder loves it!
In the coming months and years, Bethesda wants to refine its game, especially by adding content, “new types of travel” or even providing patches. While some modders, like the one who created Skyrim Together, have abandoned the game because they believed it was too mediocre, others are eagerly waiting for the official creative tools to become available.
Meanwhile, some are already trying things out, like Jared Kohr. The latter was frustrated by the lack of ability to use mechas and decided to work on a mod that made this possible. Mechas exist in the game universe, but their use was officially banned after the Colonial Wars. You can see them in various places, especially museums. The fact is that none are usable, and Jared Kohr has decided to correct the situation.
The result can be seen in the video included in this news and it is promising! At the moment there are many limitations: the camera cannot be changed and the recordings actually come from the player’s avatar. The mecha model, designed by another modder named m150, is very popular and the animations are already there. It remains to be seen whether the integration of mechas will be the work of Bethesda, an expansion through these new modes of travel, or whether it will have to rely on the work of modders, who will be much freer once the tools are implemented. available.
