There are only a few weeks left before Fallout 76 receives its most important update to date. Then the game will not only appear on Steam, but will also finally get normal NPCs through the Wastelanders update.
Now Bethesda has released almost 30 minutes of gameplay from Wastelanders during the Bethesda Game Days in Boston and also revealed a few more details about the dialog system. Because if there are NPCs, then we want to be able to talk to the boys and girls. You can watch the gameplay right here and see for yourself what you can expect from the NPCs.
One thing is clear from both the gameplay and the dialog system: Fallout 76 with Wastelanders almost feels like a normal fallout for single players. At least at first glance. Until then, we will find out whether Fallout 76 really pays off for fans of the older series parts after the release.
The dialog system in detail
The developers of Fallout 76 have published a new blog entry on the official website. Here you go into more detail about how the dialog system is designed. It will come as no surpr ise to anyone that many aspects naturally resemble dialogues from the predecessors.
As is typical of Fallout, you will also be able to find peaceful solutions in Wastelander's problems within dialogues. The developers promise that our words will have consequences. These consequences can affect not only the direction in which the conversation is going. They also open up alternative solutions and whoever takes the wrong note can sink in the eyes of an entire faction.
This system, most recently used in Fallout: New Vegas, will now be used again in Fallout 76. The two main factions are the settlers and the raiders. We have already explained how the fraction mechanics work in another place.
Your S.P.E.C.I.A.L values determine which conversation options are available to you during a dialog with an NPC. depending on how high you have a certain talent, you get different answers. So it doesn't just depend on your charisma what you have to say exactly.
By the way, according to Bethesda, not only the new NPCs benefit from the new dialogue system. Discussions from the basic game have also been revised. You will probably not get any new solutions here, since the quests remain the same, but conversations with robots like Rose or MODUS should feel much more lively.
In addition, it should also be possible in Wastelanders to start romances with beloved NPCs or to convince companions to settle permanently in your camp.
