We hate it when it’s just shown a trailer without much explanation, but meanwhile we have a few nuggets on Wyrdsong, a new RPG from Fallout and Skyrim veterans.
When a former Bethesda executive announces a game, you automatically listen a little more carefully. Jeff Gardiner has an illustrious history of working on titles including Skyrim, Fallout 3, 4, and 76. And his co-founder of new studio Something Wicked Games formerly worked on Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds at Obsidian Entertainment . In addition, there is the former Technical Director of Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Uff.
The studio’s first project is called Wyrdsong and is still so early in development that neither the release period nor the platforms are known. The release may still be a long way off. Around 70 people are currently working on the game, after the workforce was boosted thanks to $13.2 million in seed capital from NetEase.
Apparently it is an RPG that takes place in a fictional version of medieval Portugal. You slip into the role of a fully customizable protagonist and experience the world through RPG mechanics such as combat and quests. What this is about, however, nobody knows except for the developers, it seems. The only thing that is certain is that the Templars play a role in the whole thing, with dark fantasy, secret societies and their occult elements being the focus.
According to IGN, Wyrdsong is designed to make players question reality and will play with concepts such as an unreliable narrator, choices and consequences, the supernatural and Templar-like conspiracies.
