news hardware Xbox: Razer releases a Sonic controller… but at what price?
Sonic is definitely hot right now: after a new movie in cinemas and a compilation on consoles, here comes the must-have accessory for everyone who drives for the blue hedgehog: a controller made in collaboration with Razer and Microsoft. However, you have to plan a nice budget.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an Xbox controller pa inted in the colors of a video game license, far from it. Microsoft’s pad has in fact been given the title “Halo”, “Sea of Thieves” or “Gears of War”, with more or less successful looks. But this case is a bit different, because it is a license from another publisher and above all a well-known player in gaming accessories: Razer.
Sonic in my Xbox series pad
Razer is particularly well-k nown for its mice and keyboards, and also makes various models of controllers for PCs and consoles. With this new Sonic The Hedgehog Edition model you don’t have to look far in terms of design and ergonomics, because it is no more or less than an Xbox series pad. So Razer serves primarily as an intermediary between Sega and Microsoft. It is therefore Xbox and PC compatible.
However, fans of the blue hedgehog have every chance to fall in love with the look of this controller, which uses the hero’s color codes (red, blue, white). There is also a somewhat retro-looking Sonic, the indispensable golden rings and the slogan “let’s roll!” behind, only to want to plunge headfirst into the first loop that comes up.
The controller is also not sold individually and comes with a charging station that you can use to find the pixel art palm trees of the iconic Green Hill Zone, the first level that represents the Sonic of the Megadrive.
A more expensive controller than the Xbox Elite V2
In short, a nice object for collectors, but with a certain price.
On the Razer US website
— the only place it’s sold at the moment — you’ll have to pay $199 for a “controller + charger” combo. And the success seems to be there too, because all stocks are currently sold out. We must therefore pay attention to replenishment.
