The United States is certainly the most important territory for console manufacturers and game publishers. And it’s not uncommon for them to redouble their efforts to seduce American consumers (sometimes to the detriment of players in other regions). Since what happens in the United States can set the tone for other markets, in addition to its lack of it, the turn of things is always closely watched.

Exceptionally, the statistics for the American video game market of the day come from the Twitter by Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and specialist advisor in the video game industry for The NPD Group. The latter, in fact, made several revelations on game console sales in the US last June. And to believe the analyst, all was well for the three console makers across the Atlantic last month.
Xbox Series X | S:
The Xbox Series is the top-selling hardware in the U.S. as of June 2021, based on the dollars generated from sales. Just the amount raised that month of June enabled the Xbox brand to set a new sales record within a month. Phil Spencer’s brand actually broke a record set in June 2011.
Nintendo Switch:
The Nintendo Switch tops the US NPD rankings for the month of June 2021 in terms of the number of consoles sold. Additionally, the Switch ranked # 1 in the US for the first six months of the year in terms of both consoles sold and dollars generated.
PS5:
The PS5 remains the fastest-selling console in US market history. This statistic takes into account sales of consoles during the first eight months of marketing, excluding portable consoles. Mat Piscatella made it clear that when you factor in the first eight months in the handheld console market, only the Game Boy Advance does better than the PS5.
In general, the American video game market, and the console market in particular, has done very well over the past month. In June 2021, console sales generated $ 401 million, up 112% from June 2020 sales. This is the highest sum reached in a month of June since June 2008 and generated $ 617 million.
In the first six months of 2021, American consumer spending on hardware increased 45% from the first six months of 2020, to a total of $ 2.3 billion.
Despite the difficulty of shipping new generation consoles, their market presence and continued popularity of the Switch have clearly helped revitalize the US console market. When the competition is fierce, it seems like there hasn’t been much of a loser in the US over the past month.
