The price increase of the Playstation 5 by 50 dollars a few weeks ago shocked quite a few fans and fears arose that the competition would follow suit. But apparently Microsoft doesn’t want to.
Prices are currently climbing in all areas – hardly anything that isn’t getting more expensive, including games. The price increase of the PS5 by 50 dollars was therefore not exactly surprising, but not exactly welcome given the poor availability.
Microsoft had announced early on that it was not planning any similar steps, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirmed this again to CNBC.
“At a time when our customers are economically disrupted and more insecure than ever, we don’t see fit to increase the price of our consoles,” said Spencer. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there can’t be increases, but at least not in the foreseeable future.
Spencer also highlighted the value of the affordable Xbox Series S, which appears to be selling well: “We love the Series S’ position in the market – it’s our cheapest console. Over half of new gamers come from the Series S. And I can definitely say that we currently have no plans to increase the price of our consoles.”
The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is now also available in a core version in white.
