In addition to all the technical details about 12 teraflops, up to 120 fps in games and more, Microsoft has also officially confirmed other information about the Xbox Series X. The focus is among other things on the backward compatibility of the console, about which there have been speculations and rumors in the past few months. Now Microsoft has officially announced that the Xbox Series X will support all four generations of Xbox.
On the Xbox Series X you will not only be able to play the new games for the next-gen platform yourself, but also all existing games for Xbox One as well as all backward-compatible games of the generations Xbox 36ß and Xbox. These should "look better and be played better than ever," says the Redmond company. Developers are not even in demand, because without having to do anything actively, titles from previous generations support more stable frame rates, faster loading times, higher resolutions and better graphics quality on the XSX. All Xbox One accessories will also be compatible with the new console.
This comprehensive compatibility also comes with the newly confirmed "Smart Delivery" feature. In summary, this means that if you buy a game once, you will automatically receive the version for all other Xbox platforms without having to pay for an upgrade or purchase a separate game version.
"This way we make sure that you only have to buy each title once and play the best available version of the game on the console of your choice. This technology is available to all developers and publishers. They can decide whether they want it for their games want to use that first appear on Xbox One and later on Xbox Series X, "said Microsoft.
The feature is definitely supported by all first party games, with Halo Infinite explicitly mentioned. If you buy the new shooter for Xbox One and only purchase an Xbox Series X later, you can download the specially optimized XSX version on your new platform at no additional cost. With CD Projekt RED, a third-party provider has already announced support for Smart Delivery in relation to Cyberpunk 2077.
Speaking of Halo Infinite: The Xbox Game Pass subscription model will remain a Microsoft driving force on the Xbox Series X as well. This means that all new first-party games from Xbox Game Studios will also be available for subscribers on the next-gen console – Halo Infinite included.
