Xenoblade Chronicles X is finally coming to Nintendo Switch, which means it’s time to ditch your Wii U

Chronicles, Coming, ditch, finally, means, Nintendo, Switch, time, Wii, Xenoblade

Xenoblade Chronicles X fans, the day has finally arrived: the underrated Wii U classic is coming to Nintendo Switch.

Over the Switch’s lifespan, Nintendo has ported a slew of games from the less-than-popular Wii U to its wildly successful successor. Mario Kart 8 is clearly the best-performing game on Switch, but there are also games like Pokémon, Captain Toad: Treasure Hunters, Pikmin, and more, including the original Xenoblade Chronicles. But there’s one game that even the most ardent fans never thought would come to Switch: Xenoblade Chronicles X. But, uh, Nintendo just announced today that the mecha game will actually be coming to the developer’s current console version.

Without announcing the news directly, Nintendo shared the news on its various social media accounts earlier today that this particular edition is launching under the name Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. According to Nintendo, the Definitive Edition features enhanced visuals and even some “all-new story elements,” but as someone unfamiliar with the series, I can’t tell you if those story elements are visible in the port’s trailer, other than Outside of the brief trailer at the end, it looks like something straight out of Kingdom Hearts.

Best of all, you won’t have to wait that long, as the game will release on March 20, 2025, which is just a few months away. Interestingly, the Nintendo Switch was originally released in March (March 3, 2017, to be specific). I would be surprised if Nintendo then decided to release the Switch 2 or any follow-up product before or after new games for its previous platform, even if it was just a port. Essentially, we can expect the new console to launch as early as April, but right now Nintendo is busy selling alarm clocks, so who knows if we’ll actually get an official announcement.
