Samsung has presented a new image sensor with the ISOCELL GN2. The highlight of the module is a new autofocus system that Samsung calls “Dual Pixel Pro”. This is a further development of the well-known dual pixel technology.
While this only compares information from the left and right areas of the image to focus the subject, the Dual Pixel Pro technology also compares information from the upper and lower areas. Samsung “divides” some pixels diagonally instead of just vertically, as was previously the case.
With this trick, the Dual Pixel Pro technology should also be able to focus on tricky subjects. Samsung cites a lock of hair as an example that hangs over the shoulder.
