Strengthening itself after the pandemic hit, phobia It’s finally coming to consoles via an early access release.
Besides Among Us, Phasmophobia has had a lot of success during the various lockdowns during the pandemic, mostly because it offers a great way to play horror games online with friends. While you can only play it on PC so far, the horror game is coming to PS5, PlayStation VR2, and Xbox Series X/S this August, as developer Kinetic Games announced. Kinetic Games shared details of the upcoming release on Steam, saying you should “keep an eye out for more detailed release dates in the coming weeks.”
Kinetic Games notes that when the game launches on consoles, it will start with the Progression 2.0 update and plans to “regularly update content and bug fixes alongside the PC version.” In terms of player safety, reporting and player bans also apply to all platforms, and you will be able to block players in the log, i.e. mute them indefinitely until (if) you unblock them.
If you haven’t picked up the game yet but want to play it with your friends who have played it on PC, good news: optional crossplay is also planned! An icon showing which platform each person is playing will appear on their respective ID card in the form of a Steam, PlayStation or Xbox logo.
As mentioned above, the game is coming to PSVR2, which means it will be playable in VR on PlayStation just like it is on PS5, though the announcement post doesn’t make it clear if it’s a separate purchase or just another way to play on PS5 play games.
Phasmophobia launched on PC in 2020 and quickly became popular through streaming and playback.
