Another giant step in the right direction for cloud gaming and, above all, for those who have a colossal library on GOG: you will soon be able to take your proprietary games to Luna, the cloud game included with Amazon Prime. In other words: you can play The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 directly from your mobile phone, your TV or your PC with the peculiarity that in the latter case you save installation, updating the game or buying a new graphics card. What’s more, the DRM-free philosophy still stands.
GOG y Luna have announced a more than promising alliance whose premise is simple: if you have an Amazon Prime account you will not have to buy anything you do not have to enjoy GOG games, since you will be able to run them through the cloud in PCs, smartphones, tablets, Fire TV o smart TVs. An announcement that, by the way, comes not long after Apple itself opens the doors to other stores (reluctantly) on Macs, iPhone or iPads.
At this point it is time to briefly explain what Luna is and what it consists of: available in Europe for months, and with a history of a couple of years in Anglo-Saxon markets, the premise of Amazon’s gaming service involves Prime Video and the possibility of playing video games remotely through streaming, like when you watch a video on YouTube or Netflix.
So, is it free to play with Prime? The truth is that there are a handful of games, some fixed and others rotating, although not many. You can purchase your own game packages, in addition to importing those that we already have into your library from, for example, Ubisoft Connect. It is expected that the process with GOG, as announced, will not be very different.
The advantages of this? In addition to importing your own games, and GOG has given away a lot, Luna is compatible with PC, Xbox, PS4 controllers and even the usual mouse and keyboard; in addition to offering a solution that allows us to convert our mobile phone into a controller to play from any smart television. So, if cloud gaming is enabled on GOG, we will be able to enjoy that enormous catalog of classics impossible to find on other platforms, the hits of PlayStation Studios for PC, new releases or any title for sale from the store.
Don’t you have a command? At Amazon they offer their own one that in terms of design is a carbon copy of the Xbox one and, in addition, is linked directly to their cloud game. You don’t have to associate it with the device you want to use it on and you can jump from PC to TV or mobile comfortably while playing.
Of course, this opens up interesting possibilities such as being able to continue our game in progress on the go from mobile phones or save space on our hard drives, and even broadcast games live through Twitch by doing just a couple of previous steps. Not to mention the best thing about cloud gaming: you won’t need cutting-edge hardware to enjoy titles like the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077
From GOG they indicate that their entire catalog of games will come to Luna, so we will have immediate access to what we already own and will make us opt a little more for their store when buying games. In fact, they insist that no need to buy the same game twice to enjoy it wherever you want in Luna. In addition, what we buy on GOG through Luna will go to our library and GOG GALAXY cloud saves and achievements will always be at hand.
A double success for both parties, since until now GOG games were practically confined to being played from PC and Luna, despite offering game packages and paid services, lacks its own store with recent releases. In any case, a huge barrier has just been broken down to play whatever we want and where we want. Including some classics that you can only find on GOG.
