Just two weeks after the launch of The Quarry, sometimes referred to by gamers as Until Dawn 2, Supermassive has had to delay the launch of a game mode.
Considered the spiritual successor to Until Dawn, The Quarry will nonetheless bring some innovations compared to its illustrious predecessor. Starting with a multiplayer mode that will ultimately not be available at launch.
Delay for online multiplayer mode
The cleaver just fell. The Quarry online multiplayer will not be available concurrently with the single player campaign on June 10th. The developers obviously need more time to improve the experience, as explained in the announcement message shared on 2K’s social media:
The wait is over and the team and I can’t wait for you to get our hands on The Quarry in two weeks time. The game will be released on June 10th with local co-op and movie mode. However, we made the difficult decision to postpone online multiplayer in order to give you the best possible experience. The wait won’t be long, however, as multiplayer will be added via an update on July 8th.
– Will Bytes, director of The Quarry
As a reminder, the game offers two ways to complete the adventure with others. In local co-op, where a maximum of 8 participants are assigned one or more monitors depending on the number of players. It is then sufficient to share the controller each time one of the animators becomes the playable character. It is up to those involved to work together or, on the contrary, change the situation by making decisions that go against the grain.
Conversely, not everyone will be able to play in The Quarry’s online multiplayer mode. Understand that not all participants will control a character. The game master can invite up to seven friends to watch them play and participate in all important decisions by voting. The outcome depends on the results and in case of a tie, a random selection will be made. Note that crossplay will be available on consoles, but only on those of the same generation (PS5 and Xbox Series / Xbox One and PS4).
