Surprised? Most probably not, we assume. You have a Diablo favorite with two faces.
The third season of Diablo 4 is just around the corner, but it doesn’t stand a chance in our big Diablo community survey for your favorite series offshoots about the big bads.
And even though the bars seem to suggest it, the result is essentially not close at all, but is clearly in favor of a series part, which now has two faces.
This is how you voted
As already suggested, this graphic can be read in two ways. Diablo 2 in its original version received 29 percent of the 7,121 votes, Diablo 3 follows 2 percentage points behind and Diablo 2: Resurrected takes the last place on the podium at the same distance.
Diablo 4 follows behind with 12 percent of all votes, after which Diablo 1, the ancestor of all action role-playing games, secures fifth place (6 percent). And at the very end, with less than 100 ballots from the digital ballot box, Diablo Immortal leads a truly lonely existence.
The alternative reading
However, the question remains: Does it make sense to ultimately count Diablo 2 and its remake separately? Because technically, the new, stylish graphics from Resurrected actually contain the original.
Anyone who answers no here can confidently watch as Diablo 2 rises triumphantly and laughingly above all its successors and its forefather. Combined, both branches have an absolute majority of 54 percent.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is as awesome as ever, but it could have been so much more!
That’s what you say in the comments
You commented extensively on the article, thank you for that. The Diablo series noticeably occupies a special place in the hearts of the GameStar community. Below we will show you some examples of opinions:
- BukerattheUnclean: But the truth is that Diablo 2 deservedly received more votes than other games combined.
- Advantages: Didn’t expect Diablo 1 to end up this low. I myself voted for D2 and my second vote would have gone to D1 for nostalgia reasons.
- McAndrew77: D2/D3. [Denn] D4 achieves 0 fun for me in solo gameplay.. the whole loot system with the special affixes is absolutely demotivating for me. For me, an open world completely destroys the game/story flow. […] D4 feels like work to me rather than hours of fun.

Diablo 2: Resurrected – This is too old-fashioned, says Maurice. Nonsense, says Heiko!
- Juicebag85: I played Diablo 1 back in 1997 when I was 12 years old and that’s why I know that this is the best part. 🙂
I sense a soul in search of answers
- BukerattheUnclean: D1 is clearly No. 1 in terms of atmosphere, but D2 is so far ahead of the other three in terms of gameplay that in my opinion there can be no other winner.
- Melenkurion: Born in ’66 and I know them all, the Diablos 🙂 For nostalgia reasons, I would like to say Diablo 1 because back then it was unique and it was something very special. Nevertheless, I voted for D3. I have never saved so much time in any Diablo game and have taken part in almost every season. Brilliant!
Diablo 3 didn’t win, but reached second place in GameStar readers’ favor.
- MidnyteBlack: I’m definitely on team Diablo III and IV. Since the third part, a lot of things have been modernized and improved from the ground up and so the titles are still very playable today.
- regulator_m: D3+D4 are much better than D1/D2/D2R. I can no longer play D2 because of the inventory system alone. D3+D4 are still running in a loop for me, and D4 will have the Reaper of Souls effect with the first addon at the latest.
Although Diablo 4 is clearly failing in the GameStar community’s favor as of today, there is certainly a chance for improvement. The latest season seems to be better received than its predecessors and with the add-on Vessel of Hatred, a similar jolt to the one that once hit the series with Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls is in store for later in the year.
What do you think? Will Diablo 4 achieve the turnaround in 2024, as Heiko also predicts?
