The studio will work with Zynga’s NaturalMotion to produce an unannounced RPG for cross-platform playback.
Echtra Games is the developer of Torchlight 3 and is composed of former Runic Games developers who developed the first two Torchlight games.
The studio is led by the founder Max Schaefer, who has worked on “Diablo”, “Diablo 2” and all Torchlight games.
According to Zynga, the studio’s pedigree is what attracted the company to acquire through GI.biz.
Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau said: “Max and his team at Echtra Games are responsible for creating the most legendary game properties ever. They are experts in action RPG genres and cross-platform development.”
“This acquisition will help expand our iconic license and brand from mobile devices to PCs and game consoles, while helping to further expand Zynga’s entire potential market.”
