We have already seen many gaming events canceled, postponed, or affected by coronavirus outbreaks, and today we see the general conclusion of the 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championship.
In a statement released today, Pokémon Company says the safety of everyone involved is a top priority.
"The safety and well-being of our community, both competitors and organizers, is a priority for us. While we choose not to see the event postponed or canceled, due to the extreme caution and compliance with the current public comment set by Health authorities, we have canceled the 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championship.
We want to thank Play! The Pokémon community has their ongoing enthusiasm for our competitive events and appreciates the support and understanding of everyone in these unique situations. The Official website answers some very specific questions for those planning to attend or compete in any identity event, including tracking information that local events may or may not be canceled.
The Pokémon Company has made it very clear there have been no reports directly linking any of the cases to the virus and its events, but takes precautionary measures even in those cases there is I'm moving on. For example, the need to shake hands before and after a game has been limited by the time available, and signers will be provided for those present.
