The Legend of Zelda timeline is often discussed at length online, but series producer Eiji Aonuma doesn’t pay too much attention to it, as he finds it often keeps them busy creatively. He said he feels it limits where they can take the story and gets in the way creatively. Aonuma concluded by saying that the timeline of the series is something that people interpret in their own way. Here’s what he said:
“I mean, just like you said, this is a series that’s really suitable for every person who plays, then th inks and interprets the elements of the story in their own way. We have these main players in each game, with Zelda, Ganon, and Link, and they each come to the surface and play their roles in potentially slightly different ways in each title.
“But personally, I don’t like to put too much stock in the chronology of the series, because from a design perspective, it can kind of burden us and limit where we can take the story as we continue to make games in the series. And so I think it’s something that’s best for people to interpret for themselves. And yes, I kind of agreed with a lot of the things you said.”
