Sharpen your swords and prepare for battle as the Soul Reapers come to Nintendo Switch on July 11th through Bleach: Brave Souls, a free-to-play beat em’ up game based on the popular anime and manga. Originally a mobile game, but now also present on PC, Playstation and Xbox, it has had a total of more than 90 million downloads since its launch in 2015 and is sure to collect even more with this Switch port.
Die-hard fans of the series can work their way through their favorite arcs, from Soul Society to Thousand Year Blood War, and experience several other stories that haven’t been adapted before. It also has dozens and dozens of playable characters, including both heroes and villains. However, since it’s a mobile game at its core, it will retain microtransactions and have a strong focus on online multiplayer.
July will also see another of the “Big Three” anime make a splash on the Switch with ILCA’s One Piece Odyssey. While Brave Souls isn’t the Bleach console game that fans may have wanted to see, at least the series is getting a spot on the Switch, alongside One Piece and Naruto, before it’s too late. Japan’s best-selling console would feel hollow if Shinigami didn’t guide its soul to peace.
