Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
North America
The North American design definitely has a certain vibe to it, with the tried and tested moon hovering in the background and the man-beast Cornell just…standing there. Okay, he’s holding a skull that appears to have been ripped from a skeleton, which is kind of cool, but we’d be lying if we said the composition was bursting with energy. But we like the ominous image of Dracula in the corner.
Europe
Ah, this is already similar to that. The European design once again has Cornell front and center, but there’s a lot more going on here and it makes for, in our opinion, a more interesting picture. The moon is here again – check – but now we have bats, a ship, a castle, some skeleton heads, some weird swirling fog… The works! That’s a cool picture; we dig it.
Japan
The Japanese vertical composition uses the game’s character models to, uh, reasonable success, we guess..? Granted, we love the use of color here and will never tire of the ‘Akumajou Dracula’ logo, but again, it’s just lacking zing
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
