Hello folks and welcome back to Box Art Brawl!
Looking back at last week, Tetris Attack on the Game Boy entered the ring for a classic duel, with North America and Europe going head-to-head against Japan. Quite expectedly, the inclusi on of Nintendo characters gave Japan a significant advantage, with the region winning comfortably with 75% of the vote.
This week we’re moving forward a bit to Game Boy Advance with Mario Golf: Advance Tour, the counterpart to the GameCube’s Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. Released in 2004, it retained many of the RPG elements that shaped the previous titles and was well received by critics.
Just like last week, this is another duel between Western design and Japanese design, so without further ado, let’s get started…
Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
North America / Europe
Okay, boom, look at Mario over there, he’s looking great, huh? We also like how it slightly overlaps the GBA label on the left. It’s a very bold image, and Nintendo made great use of the background space as well, adding extra characters to admire Mario’s pristine form.
Japan
Wait… Where’s Mario?! Okay, he’s on the grass, but jeez, it’s kind of weird playing Mario Golf without the main player, isn’t it? It’s like the total opposite of last week’s clash with Tetris Attack. This is still a cool picture though; we are always ready for a lineup that includes a whole bunch of interesting characters. The environments are also a little more realistic than the western designs, which makes for a nice touch, even if it’s not entirely representative of what’s in the game.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
