Welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl!
In last week’s feud, we checked out Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color, pitting a Western design against a rather strange attempt from Japan. In the end, Japan won 72% of the votes – well done!
This week we switch to Nintendo DS with Super Scribblenauts from WB Games and Konami (Japan). Released in 2010, it continued the original game’s premise of allowing you to create a wide variety of objects to solve puzzles by simply typing them out.
We have three different cover designs here, so without further ado, let’s break it down.
Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s look at the box designs themselves.
North America
There’s a nice almost sunset vibe going on with the backdrop of North America, while the game’s protagonist, Maxwell, is featured front and center, holding a mighty pen in the air. It’s also made to look like it’s breaking through the paper screen itself, which is a neat little detail.
Europe
The European design is quite similar, although the colors are both brighter and somehow more muted. Maxwell is also located directly in the game world, with various characters forming the background of the picture. Also, there is a flying car. Nice.
Japan
The Japanese design takes a more abstract approach, showing Maxwell in the lower left corner against a red background filled with drawings. It makes sense given the overall premise of the title, and it’s certainly a bold, eye-catching design.
Thanks for voting! See you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
